Welcome to Year 2 - Autumn 1
We hope you had the best summer filled with lots of fun. We are so excited to have you back in school and cannot wait for all the fun learning we are going to be doing together. We know it’s been a while since some of you were sat in a classroom but we want you to know everything is going to be okay and we are going to make you feel as comfortable as possible. It’s okay to feel a little nervous, even as adults we can feel the same too. If you have any worries, please don’t hesitate to come and speak to us.
The topic for this half term is Habitats. We will look at a range of animals and explore the habitats in which they live. We will also explore what animals, plants and humans need to survive. I wonder if you know anything about this topic already. In English, we will be exploring different traditional tales and will even be looking at some traditional tales with a twist. I wonder what traditional tales you know of already and if you have a favourite? We will continue with our phonics sounds and will continue to apply these in our reading and writing. In Maths, we will start the term by developing our understanding of place value and number knowledge.
We have a lot of exciting lessons planned for you and hope that you are excited to get to learning in school - we are looking forward to getting to know you even more this year!
Spelling Shed, MyMaths and Times Table Rockstars homework will be set weekly. Please also continue to access Numbots at home. These platforms are most effective when completed in short bursts throughout the week. Log ins for these will be sent home shortly.
Also ensure your child is reading their home reading book and that you comment within their reading records. Books will be changed weekly but can be changed more frequently if required.
Our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday. Please come to school wearing your PE clothes, with long hair tied up and earrings removed.
