Year 5 - Spring 1

Hi Year 5!

I hope you have had a fantastic Christmas and that you were able to spend time with your families in a different way than usual. Hopefully, you are well rested and ready for another half term of learning!

Our topic this half term begins with living things and their habitats before moving onto looking at animals including humans. We will also be doing another art topic focusing on collages.

We will continue to work through our Power Maths lessons, beginning with place value and moving onto addition and subtraction methods. We’ll also build on our four operation skills through daily calculation.

Our English lessons will focus on a range of skills including writing a biography, non-fiction texts and using parenthesis in our writing.

We will continue to have PE on a Monday and Thursday so please make sure you are in your PE kits with hair tied back and earrings out.

Homework will be set on a Thursday including MyMaths, SpellingShed, TTRockstars and a task set on Teams. I will check homework and those children who complete it all will be in with a chance of winning a prize!

I know that myself and Mrs Collins are ready to get back into the classroom and get stuck into all this exciting learning. I hope you are ready to do so too!

Year 5 - Autumn 2

Well done to a great start to the year. You have all settled in really well and we have had an enjoyable first half term with some hard work too! I have been really impressed with the amount of effort put into home learning and it was fantastic to see so many of you sending pictures of your work. We are in for another busy half term!

Our topic this half term focuses on Earth and Space before looking at Mountains. We also have some art topics to look at where we will be sketching and making Anglo-Saxon houses. We will continue with our computing in enrichment too.

In our Maths lesson we are focusing on revisiting some key skills whilst following our Power Maths books. We will look into fractions and decimals to become more confident with these.

Our English lessons will be based on a range of SPaG and reading skills, including performing poetry. We will also be writing our own newspaper reports and investigating some traditional stories.

Myself and Mrs Collins have loved Year 5 so far, we hope you have too! We are looking forward to another half term of fun and learning.

Welcome to Year 5 - Autumn 1

I hope you are as happy and excited as me and Mrs Collins to have you back in school! There will be time for learning, time for friends and time for fun too! Throughout home learning, I hope you have enjoyed spending time with your family and being creative with your learning. I have heard about some of the things you have been up to in your letters and I am excited to hear more about it whilst we make a great start to Year 5.

Our topic this year will begin with Ancient Greece where we will be learning all about life during this time and some of their achievements. There is also some opportunities to get creative and work practically too! Further into the half term, we will be working on our Art skills for a couple of weeks which I am very excited about!

In our Maths lessons, we will focus on number and place value as well as addition and subtraction to really build our skills in these areas. We have an exciting structure to our Maths lessons that I think you will enjoy.

Our English lessons will be focused on a book, Inside my heart and in my head… Feelings, for a couple of weeks before writing our own Greek myths!

This year, we will have PE on a Monday and Thursday and you will need to arrive in your PE kit on these days. On a Monday we will have Enrichment which will consist of PE, Computing and Cooking. On a Thursday we will have Enhancement, focusing on PE and developing our writing skills.

Homework will be set on a Thursday including MyMaths, SpellingShed and TTRockstars with a week to complete it.

We have a lot of lost time to make up for after missing so much school this year. I am hoping that not only will we focus on developing our learning but we will also spend quality time together as a class. Myself and Mrs Collins will be there to support you each day and we will do our very best to keep you safe and happy in the classroom.

I hope that you enjoy your first half term as Year 5!
