Art

Our art curriculum fosters an open-ended exploration of creativity. We want our children to develop their creative response and learn from the journey they take, developing their skills, taking risks and finding joy in art. It is underpinned by revisiting skills and through the use of an ongoing sketchbook.

Our art curriculum is planned through a combination of ideas from Access Art, Paul Carney Arts, our school East 39 programme and the wider curriculum. Opportunities for study of artists, architects and designers are built in through the East 39 programme and these are further developed through units in the curriculum. Opportunities to develop skills are provided in addition to the set units through projects, activities for Christmas (including sewing, textiles, painting and printing), current events and anniversaries and by adaptations to the main curriculum. This enables us to provide full coverage of the National Curriculum. As skills throughout school improve, additional elements will be planned into the core art curriculum.
