Spring Term 2

We have had a fantastic start to 2020 so let’s keep up the good work.

This half term our topic is materials! We will be learning about what materials things are made from and the alternative materials we could use. We will look at the properties of materials and use the information we have learnt to perform investigations to make something to fit a specification. We will be looking at superheroes and thinking carefully about powers they have and how the powers they have might cause them to need a particular material to ensure maximum potential.

In English, we will start to learn different styles of writing and we will be producing three pieces of independent work by the end of the half term. This will include a set of instructions, a recount and an imaginative story. In maths, we will be taking a deeper look at solving addition and subtraction problems as well as multiplication and division problems and recapping our knowledge of time, fractions, statistics, shape and movement.

We will have PE on a Monday and Tuesday and due to enrichment on a Thursday morning, and possible additional PE on Thursday afternoons, your PE kit will need to be in school all week. Homework will be set every week. There will be 1 piece of mymaths, 10 games on TT rock stars and a spelling list on spelling shed to be completed by the end of each school week.

Hope you all have good break and are back to school refreshed and ready to learn!

Spring Term 1

Happy new year! I have high hopes for 2020 and I know you all will be eager to get back to work after Christmas.
This half term our topic is then and now! We will be learning about how things have changed over time in different parts of our lives. This half term will have several mini-topics that I’m sure will gain your interest. We will look at the royal family, how communication has changed, the introduction of electricity, the toys of our grandparents compared to ours, how transport has improved over the last century and the invention of supermarkets. We are striving to find out as much information as we can in order to form a well-rounded and evidenced opinion of which time period we think is the best – Victorians or now!
In English, we will start to learn different styles of writing and we will be producing three pieces of independent work by the end of the half term. This will include an information text, a story and a persuasive letter. In maths, we will be taking a deeper look into time, intervals of time and continuing our learning of multiplication and division.
Hope you all have an excellent start to 2020 and happy new decade!

Autumn Term 2

We have had a fantastic start to year 2, lots of learning from my trusty shipmates!

This half term our topic is animals! We will be learning how animals are born, grow and reproduce as well as thinking more carefully about the needs of animals and humans. We will also be re-visiting the weather patterns and continents and oceans of the world to help us identify and locate different types of animals around the world and research why they choose to live in these areas.

In English, we will still be focussing on sentence structure and handwriting as well as maintaining our goal of including expanded noun phrases in our sentences in various types of narrative. In maths, we will be revisiting place value, addition and subtraction and number bonds as well as starting to learn multiplication, division, fractions and measurement.

We will have PE on a Monday and Tuesday and due to enrichment on a Friday, and possible additional PE on Thursday, your PE kit will need to be in school all week. Homework will be set every week. There will be 1 piece of mymaths, 10 games on TT rock stars and a spelling list on spelling shed to be completed by the end of each school week.

I can’t wait to introduce to all to a new member of our year 2 class when we come back to school this half term!
